Life Ring

Ripples in the water

Whitecaps build

Building

Into waves, crash

Crashing

Over head

Into lungs

Weight of the sea, gulp

Gulping

Body tumbles

Tumbling

What is up

What is down

What is true

What is false

What is

Can’t breath

Can’t see

Can’t move

Can’t hear

Paralyzed

Down I sink

Sinking

Drowning

A life ring

Fingers grasp

Grasping

Fumbling

On the keys

The melody

To the notes, clutch

Clutching

Listening

Don’t stop playing

Don’t let go

Begin to hear

Begin to move

Begin to see

Begin to breath

Stable

To the notes, hold

Holding

Head above water

For air, gasp

Gasping

Reprieve

For now
